Smart Remote is a universal TV remote application. We have designed it to work without accounts and without a backend of our own — we operate no servers, and your TV activity never reaches us.
We do not ask you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, videos, files, health data, or precise location. We have no access to what you watch.
All communication with your television happens directly between your device and the TV over your local Wi-Fi network. Pairing codes and access tokens issued by your TV are stored only in the secure Keychain on your device. None of this is transmitted to us or to anyone else.
iOS will ask for Local Network permission the first time you search for a TV. This is required to discover televisions on your Wi-Fi; it is used for nothing else.
The app uses services from Google that collect limited data on our behalf:
Google AdMob shows advertisements. It may collect your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), IP address, device type and operating system version, and how you interact with ads.
Google Analytics for Firebase collects anonymous usage events — which screens are opened, which controls are used, which TV brands connect — along with device model, OS version and approximate country. This tells us which features matter and where the app fails.
Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports: stack traces, device state at the moment of the crash, and a random installation identifier.
None of this is tied to a name or an account, because the app has neither. Data is processed by Google LLC in accordance with its own privacy policy.
Advertising keeps the app free. On first launch we ask, through Apple's standard system prompt, whether you allow tracking:
You can change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. You can also reset or disable your advertising identifier there.
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, personalised advertising may be considered "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. Declining tracking opts you out. We do not sell your personal information for money.
